Hello Kasumi (2015)
Ceramic and glaze, mixed media
Hello Kitty's "official" profile states that she is "five apples high and weighs as much as three apples." I am 31 mandarines high and weigh as much as 164 mandarines. We are both "made in Japan" but grew up elsewhere:Kitty is "lives in London" according to her official profile, and I lived in the US for half of my life until my early 20s.
My identity and how to understand it and present it to others has been, is, and will always be something that keeps pestering me. I would like to imagine that Kitty faces the same issues with her "bi-culturalness."
