Kasumi Iwama is a multidisciplinary artist whose work responds to and reflects on issues such as globalization, borders, and feminism through her perspective as a bi-cultural millennial. Born in Oita, Japan, and raised in New York and Tokyo, she has a BFA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York, and an MA from he Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar (Cultural Studies). She has participated in group and solo shows in the U.S., Japan, Europe, and South America, residencies at No Lugar (Ecuador) and Mas Els Igols (Spain), and is also involved in feminist art activism, participating in public performances, campaigns, and has been a guest lecturer in Japanese universities. She is also an English/Japanese translator specializing in art-related texts.
Currently lives and works in Quito, Ecuador.
平成生まれのミレニアル育ち。
様々なメディアを用いてグローバル化、国境等のあらゆる境界、フェミニズムなどのテーマをアメリカと日本の間で育ったミレニアル世代目線で表現する。ニューヨークのスクール・オブ・ビジュアル・アーツ（BFA学士）、アンディナ・シモン・ボリバル大学（文化学／カルチュアラル・スタディーズ、修士）卒業。ニューヨーク、東京、ヨーロッパ、南米などで制作と発表活動を続け、アクティヴィスト、フェミニストと一緒に運動にも関わっている。アートに特化した日英翻訳も行っている。現在エクアドルのキト在住。
Kasumi Iwama crea trabajos en varios medios que responden y reflexionan sobre causas como globalización y feminismo a través de una perspectiva como milenaria bicultural. Tiene un BFA en Artes Plásticas por la School of Visual Arts en Nueva York y mágister en Estudios de la Cultura en la Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar. Continuó su practica artística en Nueva York, Tokio, y Barcelona, y Ecuador, participando en varias exposiciones. También está involucrada en activismo feminista con colegas feministas, activistas, y artistas.
Actualmente vive y trabaja en Quito, Ecuador.
