I'm sitting here at this intersection and I don't even care.
SVA BFA Fine Arts Open Studios, Fall 2010
Ceramic and glaze installation
The cliché is that you are never more alone than when you are in an overpopulated city. This sentiment is expressed through the expressionless figures scattered throughout my studio. They are often alone, or not interacting with one another. The small scale of the figures make the cubicle-studio seem vast, at least for the figures.
Fourth year fine arts students are crammed into tiny cubicle-studios to work on their individual projects. The irony here is that we all chose to pursue the arts to avoid the cubicle life, but we find ourselves in them anyway, and while the physical closeness is supposed to conjure a sense of community, in reality we are very isolated as artists and New Yorkers.
